Repair is a radical act

Today I want to talk about: Product quality and maintenance and how Patagonia does it.

It sounds cliché and unoriginal to say that Patagonia does things very well.

But it is unfair on the other hand not to say. The technical and comfort clothing company has been developing under certain values that have made it a benchmark brand in its market, as well as a reference in the environment of sustainability and care for the environment.

Patagonia has integrated into its after-sales device: a garment repair service. There are many companies that justify that due to logistics problems this work is impossible but when responsibility and brand values go ahead of problems, solutions are found.

The importance of the subject is that the sale is not the end of the road. Rather, the durability of the product must be ensured and its subsequent integration into the environment once it has to be discarded.

The keys from my humble point of view to make this a reality: higher product quality, and greater promulgation of the "Fix and don't throw away" culture.

Patagonia has on its web: https://www.patagonia.com/worn-wear.html a section in which it explains its method of arranging garments, and what these garments mean both for them and for their clients and why things are worth fixing.

From the point of view of the company, the issue of fixes poses a threat, but I doubt if this threat is greater than: a fast fashion model that is running out, a shrinking of margins and an incipient consumer demand that the company is responsible.

The client will understand that, if he has acquired a good product and due to the passage of time or the garment has been broken by some activity or by simple use, he will have to pay for these arrangements in order to continue enjoying the garment. A fixed garment is better than a new one: Always! The use gives things lived moments and a multitude of granted feelings.

I'll leave it there.
